Traditional fascias and soffits are made of wood, but huge improvements have been made in the roofing trade and the new products have many more benefits to the property and the homeowner.
The weather takes its toll on the wooden fascias and soffits, making repairs more regular due to water ingress, birds nesting, wood rotting due to bad weather etc. With the new products there is very little maintenance required, also helping to prevent water ingress and birds nesting.
Most new properties have the newer fascia and soffits installed and older properties can be upgraded.
Wooden fascias and soffits are prone to rot and crumble, by the weather conditions affecting them, plus they need regular maintenance to keep them functional.
The new upgrades are more durable, practical, functional and do not need regular maintenance. They help to keep birds and larger insects out of the roof space and prevent water ingress.
There are also choices of the type, style and colour of the fascias and soffits.
There are many advantages for replacing the old wooden soffit boards. As roofing products/materials and building regulations update, they supercede the old materials.
Most new builds now install the new soffit boards and older properties can be converted.
Vented soffits are also a welcome option as they allow for the air to circulate which helps prevent condensation in the roofline/loft.
Not all properties have soffits, but most do.
